The Small Business Institute® (SBI) offers free business assistance to small firms located in the Hampton Roads area.  Teams of senior-level business majors and business minors, under faculty supervision of the SBI Director, provide semester-long business consultation to selected small business and non-profit organizations.

The Franklin Business Incubator provides hands-on management assistance, access to financing, and exposure to critical business and technical support services. The Franklin Business Incubator also offers shared office services, access to office equipment, flexible, inexpensive leases, and, expandable space in a four-story, 40,000 square foot, facility in downtown Franklin.

Launch Hampton Roads is Opportunity Inc.’s grant to provide entrepreneurship training under the U.S. Department of Labor’s Workforce Innovation Fund as part of a three region Virginia consortium that includes organizations in Northern Virginia and Richmond.

In Hampton Roads, the program will provide 250 adult and dislocated workers eligible for Workforce Investment Act (WIA) services with comprehensive entrepreneurship training and technical assistance via Old Dominion University, Opp Inc.’s partner.

The Technology Commercialization Center, created and incorporated in Virginia in 1999. is a small, for-profit, business. TeCC won a NASA competition to operate the NASA Mid-Atlantic Regional Technology Transfer Center (RTTC) in February 2001. On March 13, 2009, TeCC was awarded a 5-year contract by NASA Langley Research Center to provide support to the Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer program.
